Senior Managerial Changes at British-American Investment Company

Nairobi 9th February 2012: British American Investment Company has announced far reaching changes in top management, in line with its new status as a listed company, and in a bid tobe more responsive to customers and stakeholders.


In a statement, Group Managing Director Mr. Benson Wairegi said “We have revamped our corporate affairs unit, and giving it a senior executive representation at director level, because as a listed company we have to be on the front footas regards to our corporate Image as this impacts on our service delivery and corporate reputation.”


He added, “We need torealign our offering to staff,and that is why we have expanded the role of our company secretary, who also sits on the board, to include human resource and talent development, so that we can achieve the demand of our ambitious growth strategy.”


Mr. MuthogaNgera, has been appointed the new director, marketing & corporate affairs. He will be responsible for marketing, research, corporate social responsibility and corporate affairs while Mrs. Nancy Kiruki is the new director legal, human resources and company secretary.


Mr. Ambrose Dabani is the General Manager, Life and Pensions responsible for the one distribution channel, pension, group life and life operations which includes underwriting, customer service and premium processing. Jack Maina is the new Chief Information Officer, responsible for IT operations, project management, IT Innovation and information security & compliance.


“One of our promises during the IPO was to revamp our distribution channels through the introduction of new and innovative solutions using interactive technologies, to expand existing market segments and develop new ones and the IT Division has a huge role to ensure that these goals are achieved,” said Wairegi.


Mr. Edwin Dande remains the Managing Director of the Asset Management Company, with the task of expanding the business through launch of frontier markets fund, develop new generation products, capacity enhancement, branding and marketing.


Regionally, David Kuria continues in his role as the Chief Executive Officer/Principal Officer of Britam Insurance Uganda, the company’s newest establishment. David will be responsible for growing the business in Uganda, which has limited insurance penetration, by developing tailor made products suitable for the Ugandan market and increasing the market share of the company in that market.

Mr. MuthogaNgera, Director, Marketing & Corporate Affairs,holds a Masters degree in Business Administration (strategic Management) He was the winner of the COYA 2009     Manager of the Year award. Mr. Ngera has served in various roles with the Insurance Company including General Manager – Life &Pensions, General Manager – Agency Operations, National Sales   and Marketing Manager – Life Business prior to this appointment.


Mrs. Nancy Kiruki, Director Legal, Human Resources and Company Secretary,  holds a Master of Laws degree (LLM) from the University of Cape Town, Prior to joining British-American, Nancy has worked at East Africa Breweries Limited in different capacities such as Group Human Resource and Administration Manager and Assistant Company Secretary.


Mr. Jack Maina, Chief Information Officer brings a wealth of knowledge in technically sophisticated information systems; business applications design, development, deployment and support expertise. Prior to joining this company   he worked at Safaricom Limited as the Head of IT Innovation. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science,  MBA in Business Administration from University of Nairobi and Associate Masters in Project Management from George Washington University;


Mr. Ambrose Dabani, General Manager, Life and Pensions, is a fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (UK) (FIA) and a Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa (FASSA). He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the University of Nairobi. Prior to joining British-American, Ambrose worked with Deloitte Actuarial and Insurance Solutions and Hymans Robertson (currently known as Alexander Forbes).


Mr. Edwin Dande, Managing Director of the Asset Management Company, brings 13 years of experience to this position and he holds a Master of Business Administration Degree in Finance from the Wharton Business School,Pennsylvania USA,a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from the Monhouth University USA and is a Certified Public Accountant. Prior to joining British-American, Edwin worked as the CEO and Investment Manager of Baraka Africa Fund.


Mr. David Kuria ,Chief Executive Officer/Principal Officer of Britam Insurance Uganda,  holds a Master of Business Administration from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology (JKUAT). He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute of London (ACII) majoring in Life & Pensions. He has served in various capacities in the Insurance Company including; General Manager – Group Life & Pensions, Sales Manager – Group life & Pensions.
